The current version of this document can be obtained in My Oracle Support Knowledge Document 2066260.1. There is a change log at the end of this document.

Section 1: Introduction

Unlike with Software as a Service (SaaS), with Oracle E-Business Suite on Oracle Cloud you purchase (rather than subscribe to) Oracle E-Business Suite, and you retain full responsibility for maintaining your own instances (for example, in patching to the latest level). The Oracle E-Business Suite software you run on Oracle Cloud is the same as you are used to running on-premises, and looks just the same to your users and (in many respects) to your DBAs.
Running Oracle E-Business Suite on Oracle Cloud can benefit your organization in many ways. These include the ability to:
  • Reduce overall infrastructure costs and manage them more easily
  • Allocate infrastructure temporarily for non-continuous activities such as:
    • Proof of concept testing
    • Functional and technical testing
    • User training
    • Customization development
Key points regarding deployment of Oracle E-Business Suite on Oracle Cloud include:
  • Oracle E-Business Suite Releases 12.2 (12.2.3 and later) and 12.1.3 are certified to run on Oracle Cloud.
  • Oracle E-Business Suite cloud deployments all require a subscription to a cloud service of your choice. You can also subscribe to optional database services designed to cater for your specific requirements.
  • Automation is provided for a selection of deployment and management scenarios. These automation capabilities are continually being extended and enhanced.
  • Before you perform a new production implementation of Oracle E-Business Suite on Oracle Cloud, you must purchase the requisite product licenses via your Oracle sales representative or the Oracle Store.

Section 2: Frequently Asked Questions

How does Oracle E-Business Suite pricing and licensing work on Oracle Cloud?

You must subscribe to the cloud services that meet your chosen deployment needs.
If you opt to run Oracle E-Business Suite on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Compute or Compute Classic only:
  • You can use your existing Oracle E-Business Suite, Oracle Database, and Oracle Application Server licenses: we refer to this as the bring your own license(BYOL) model.
  • Oracle E-Business Suite is supplied with a restricted use Database Enterprise Edition license and additional licenses are required to run with customizations.
  • Running Oracle E-Business Suite on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Compute or Compute Classic does not require any change to your existing Oracle E-Business Suite licensing requirements (for example, for the number of CPUs).
If you opt to run your Oracle E-Business database on an Oracle Database cloud service or on an Exadata cloud service:
  • You must subscribe to an Oracle Database cloud service or an Exadata cloud service separately.
  • To run the Oracle E-Business Suite database on an Oracle Database cloud service, you need to subscribe to at least the Enterprise Edition of your Oracle Database cloud service.
    • If you wish to use Oracle RAC, you need to subscribe to the Extreme Performance option of the Enterprise Edition of your Oracle Database cloud service.
Notes regarding Oracle E-Business Suite Cloud Manager and Transparent Data Encryption (TDE):
  • A license to use Transparent Data Encryption (TDE) is included in Oracle Database cloud service and Exadata cloud service subscriptions.
  • To run a TDE-enabled database on Compute, you must have or acquire the Advanced Security Option (ASO).
  • When you use Oracle E-Business Suite Cloud Manager to provision Oracle E-Business Suite on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure with the database on a database cloud service, TDE is automatically enabled; therefore, backups of these environments are by default TDE-enabled. If you provision an environment with the database on Compute from a TDE-enabled backup you must have or acquire an ASO license.
  • Additionally, you can optionally choose to enable TDE for a new environment on Compute, or for an environment on Compute that is created from a backup of a non-TDE source environment. In these cases, you must also have or acquire an ASO license.

The management tasks you can perform to manage Oracle E-Business Suite environments on Oracle Cloud at Customer can be broken down into two categories:
  • Operations on an existing environment (that is, an environment that was previously created using the EBS Cloud Admin Tool). Examples include: cloning, scaling, and creating backups.
  • Operations based upon environment backups. Examples include: creating a new environment and deleting a backup.
To perform any of the procedures described in this document, launch the EBS Cloud Admin Tool menu.
Note: In this document, you may come across references which are labeled "Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Classic." These references are still valid and applicable for performing a flexible lift and shift of your on-premises environment to Oracle Cloud at Customer.
